The Road to Recovery Begins with a Simple Admissions Process

Help is Just a Phone Call Away

Treatment programs understand that those who are seeking help feel a lot of emotions, including anxiety, fear, curiosity and stress, which is why they aim to provide guidance and support every step of the way. Beginning with the admissions process all the way until patients complete a successful recovery program, clinicians are by their side to help in any way they can. When those suffering feel that they need help with their condition, all they need to do is simply pick up the phone and call a facility. The road to recovery begins with a simple admissions process and ends with a sustainable approach to lifelong recovery.

What to Expect During the Rehab Admission Process

Recovery begins with pre-admissions process which allows treatment clinicians to determine whether or not the program is the right choice for them. Some facilities only take certain insurance providers or may only offer programs that would not be effective for the addict; therefore, during the admissions process, certified program staff will ask a series of questions regarding health, family history and the substance addiction. Once the insurance has been validated and the treatment staff have found that the programs offered are suitable for the addiction, the patient will determine an admissions date.

When patients arrive at a treatment program, they will undergo another series of questions in order for medical professionals to determine their state of mind, physical health and if there are any other conditions the patient may be suffering from. The series of questions occur during mental evaluations, which include a psychiatric, brain wellness and psychological evaluation, as well as cognitive testing. All mental evaluations help determine how patients process certain information, how they respond to certain situations and which areas of the brain need more attention than others.
Through mental and physical assessments, clinicians will be able to craft a highly effective program that will meet the patient’s unique and specific needs. Some of the programs offered include family involvement, in which case the family will need to go through an admissions process as well.

Admissions for Families

Family inclusion is an important step on the road to recovery; not only does it help rebuild broken relationships through therapy sessions, but it also educates them on the power of addiction, how it is caused and how to help their loved one through the recovery process. Admissions for families begins with a family welcome packets that includes information regarding the treatment program, what to expect during treatment and the items you can and cannot bring to the facility.

The following list is of items that are absolutely not permitted at any facility:

  • Over-the-counter drugs that are not approved by a medical practitioner
  • Drug or alcohol paraphernalia
  • Clothing or personal items that promote drug or alcohol use
  • Items that contain any forms of alcohol including rubbing alcohol, perfume, hairsprays, cologne and hydrogen peroxide
  • Energy drinks, candles, sage, incense, hair dyes, polish removers or nail polish
  • Scissors and tweezers
  • Video games

Family members may be asked to undergo a mental and physical assessment if they will be participating in therapy; while these assessments are not as extensive as the patient’s, they do help determine what mental state the family is in.

Before family members or patients can be admitted into a program, the program staff must establish a line of communication with the health care professionals that referred the patients to the facility. There is an entire admissions process that must take place with those health care professionals even before patients begin their own admissions process.

Admissions for Professionals

The process of admissions for professionals begins with a verification of insurance on behalf of the potential patient; clinicians determine whether or not the insurance covers each of their program options and what they can do if something is not covered. The pre-admissions staff will also reach out the referring doctor in order to get more information about the patient in order to figure out if their program is the right fit. Clinicians will remain in contact with the referring doctor throughout the entire recovery process in order to keep them up-to-date on the patient’s progress.

The admissions process, whether it be admissions for families or admissions for professionals, is one of the most important steps toward increasing the chances of a successful recovery. It allows medical professionals to determine which program will be highly effective for the treatment of addiction.
